Rev. Sulin, Ian Oldaker and Catherine Porter were the St. Peter’s delegates to the 102nd Session of the Diocesan Synod on November 1st and 2nd. It began Friday night with a beautiful worship service in the Cathedral. The business meeting was held Saturday morning. It began with a guest speaker, the Rev. Canon Dr. Scott Sharman, who spoke on the topic of Synodality.

The business meeting was very efficiently run. We received all the reports to read weeks before the meeting. The main task was to vote on Amendments to the Constitution, Canons and Regulations. Did you know that the canons (or rules) that the Diocese is currently operating with date back to 1889! The amendments were largely structural: using plain language, making it internally consistent, and rearranging it into appropriate divisions, resulting in a forward-looking and flexible document that reflects current experience.

The Diocese will be working on clarifying policies for clergy, wardens and parish councils in preparation for the next Synod which will be a Zoom Synod with no travel involved. We urge anyone interested to consider allowing their name to stand as a delegate in 2025.
