We are excited that we are able to sponsor into Canada from Africa 3 adult relatives of Freweini and Mulugieta: Freweini’s younger sister and Mulugieta’s younger brother and older sister. The diocese is the Sponsorship Agreement Holder and St Peter’s is the Enabling Parish.
We are raising funds to support the settlement of these refugees. It is the responsibility of our group to support each refugee for one year or until they become self-sufficient, which ever comes first. These are 3 separate sponsorships and we estimate we will need about $25,000 per person.
The paperwork for each refugee can only be sent in once we have half of the monies needed, which is $12,500 for each. Once the paperwork is in, it takes about 14 months before they arrive! We expect them to arrive separately as they live in different places.
Financial contributions are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at the church house anytime. Donations can be made by cash or cheque made payable to St. Peter’s Refugee Fund. Donations by post dated cheques, or pledges, are also great as these count towards the total needed before the paperwork can go in. Tax receipts will be issued for amounts over $25.
The great news is that we have collected enough to send in the paperwork for 1 person!!! Now we need to collect for the other 2. Thank you to everyone!
Our group is composed of members from St.Peter’s Comox, St. John the Divine Courtenay, and other interested folks in our community.
