March 3 update:
Well, we made it! Our St. Peter’s Comox team photo was taken as we set out on our walk, pictured left to right is Sulin (unofficial team member), Catherine, Tony, Dan (who joined us on our walk), Vicki, Bruce, and our mascot Mollie. Missing are Elfrida (who took the photo), Jonathan P. and Alastair who walked independently.
We had just set out when it started to snow which is fitting, I guess, for a Coldest Night walk. At least we did not get as wet as we would have if it had rained.
Thanks to all our supporters the total funds for St. Peter’s Comox is currently $4,675.00. The donation window remains open until March 31st so if you forgot you still have time to donate.
Coldest Night of the Year, Saturday, February 26th
This is the fourth year of St. Peter's participation in the Coldest Night of the Year, a uniquely Canadian fundraising walk in support of the hurting, homeless and hungry in our community. Last year saw 149 walks in cities across Canada. Our Comox Valley walk raised $175,630 with $3,575 being raised by our St. Peter’s Comox team! Funds raised stay in the Comox Valley and will support:
- Dawn to Dawn, an organization which provides the homeless with access to safe housing
- Comox Valley Transition Society, offering support to homeless individuals and families, also operating the Connect Warming Centre in Courtenay, a safe, welcoming place for the vulnerable who are experiencing homelessness
We currently have six team members and are looking for many more to join us. This is a shout-out to all you folks in the Walking Group who are missing your Sunday walks! St. George’s also has a team and we would really like to beat them in funds raised this year. Can you help us by joining our team or by supporting one of our walkers?
